Dear Exchange Students,

Did you know that Switzerland is home to the worlds longest raillway tunnel? With a whoopping length of 57.09 km, the gotthard Base Tunnel holds the record since 2016. In this event, you will get a guided tour inside the tunnel where you will learn interesting facts about the tunnel and its history. As a highlight, there is a glass window inside the tunnel where you can experience the trains passing with up to 200 km/h.

After the guided tour, we will take the train through the old tunnel and along one of Switzerlands most scenic train routes to get to Bellinzona, the capital of the canton of Ticcino. With its castle in the city center its the perfect spot to enjoy some sunnshine and a glass of red wine. You will have the chance to explore the city on your own.

In the evening/late afternoon, we will take the train back to Zürich. This train will finaly make use of the Gotthard base tunnel to get us all back home in (almost) no time. We will be back at around 7pm, but plan in some extra time :)

Unfortunately, we can only accept a limitted amount of participants older than 25 (i.e. born before the 21.05.1998) due to restrictions to the train tickets. We will contact you if it becomes an issue.

Disclaimer: we have introduced a BLACKLIST. Please make sure to deregister 72h in advance if you can't make it to the event (in case of emergencies you can contact Joël at linggj@ethz.ch). Otherwise you will be barred from events for the next two weeks, and removed from any events you were registered for during that period. Thank you!

The Price includes

• Guided Tour through the Base Tunnel including all safety equipment.
• Train rides throughout the day.

Some other infos

• For people with a GA, the Price is 25.- CHF (with ESN card 21.-).
• We can't provide any reductions for half fare, seven25, ...

• Please wear closed shoes (i.e. no flip-flops, sandals,...)
• The temperature in the tunnel is 20 °C
• We will plan to have a short lunch break in Erstfeld. There is a takeaway close by but we recommend bringing your own lunch.
• If you like, bring some games to play with each other :)
• For safety reasons, the organizer needs to know who is taking part in the tour. For this reason, please also state the place where you live as a comment. Just PLZ and village are enough (e.g. 8000 Zürich, 8600 Dübendorf, 8909 Affoltern,...).
