| Description | Städteausflug Genf Genf ist wohl die internationalste Stadt der Schweiz. Als Metropole der Westschweiz, Schauplatz weltpolitischer Begegnungen und Sitz von unzähligen internationalen Organisationen (UNO, Internationales Rotes Kreuz, CERN etc.) hat Genf -obwohl merkbar kleiner als Zürich- ein besonderes weltläufiges Flair. Und wir wollen an diesem Tag ein wenig dieser Luft schnuppern: Zuerst werden wir eine Führung durch das europäische Hauptquartier der Vereinten Nationen machen, wobei uns die politische Bedeutung und Geschichte dieser Dependance der Weltorganisation erläutert wird und uns danach bei einem Stadtrundgang in die guterhaltene mittelalterliche Altstadt mit ihren engen Gassen stürzen. Weitere Höhepunkte sind der Blick über den See auf den höchsten Berg der Alpen, den schneebedeckten Mont-Blanc, die Kathedrale in der Jean Calvin gegen den Papst wetterte, die 140m hohe Fontäne, welche das Wahrzeichen der Stadt ist , die schicken Geschäfte der Rue de Croix-d'Or, wo der internationale Jet-Set einkauft sowie die unzähligen Autos mit dem Diplomatenkürzel CD, das ausländische Botschafter vor allfälligen Strafzetteln schützt. Am Abend geht es aus der Stadt der hohen Politik wieder zurück in die Stadt der Banken. Trip to GENEVA Geneva is the most international city of Switzerland. As host of the European headquarters of the United Nations, it was the scene of several historical events in world politics, such as the meeting between Reagan and Gorbatchov in 1986, which triggered the end of Cold War. It also hosts the headquarters of many international organizations (Red Cross, International Labor Organization, CERN, etc.) and several private banks that attract the rich and powerful from all nations. Although smaller than Zurich, Geneva has a special cosmopolitan flair that we want to experience during our one-day tour. In particular, we will visit the United Nations before plunging into the medieval old town and having a look at the jet-set shops. Our trip will then take a more scenic turn and lead us to the lake. In front of us, we will have (and perhaps feel !) the city?s symbol: a 140 meters high water stream. On our right, we will be looked upon by the highest mountain of Europe, the Mont-Blanc. On our left, we will find the home of Alinghi, a team of sailors from a small alpine country without any access to sea, that went to New Zealand, won the America?s Cup and brought it back. As for us, it is a head full of souvenirs that we will bring back to Zurich in the evening. . | ||||
