REGA Visit the Operation Center **Not executed**
When Mon 12. December 2011
Description

Swiss Air-Rescue is an independent, non-profit foundation and a corporate member of the Swiss Red Cross. Its most senior executive body is the Foundation Board. A senior management team, comprising three people, is responsible for the day-to-day business.

The Rega bases

Rega’s head office is the Rega Center at Zurich-Kloten Airport. This is also where the Operations Centre, the aircraft base for the three air-ambulances and the maintenance works for the helicopters and jets are located. The ten helicopter bases are distributed throughout Switzerland in such a way that the helicopter can reach the scene of the accident within 15 minutes of the alarm being raised (exception: canton Valais).

In addition to missions to the scene of an accident (primary missions), Rega helicopters transfer patients who are already receiving medical care from one hospital to another (secondary missions). Rega also transports organs, blood, medicaments and medical specialists. Furthermore, it carries out flights to assist mountain farmers and recovers injured or dead livestock.

Repatriations

Rega also carries out repatriation flights, whereby seriously ill or injured patients are flown from a foreign country back to Switzerland. For this purpose, Rega owns three ambulance-jets, which are equipped as flying intensive-care stations. A substantial number of patients are repatriated on board scheduled aircraft, whereby a stretcher is installed in the aircraft. These patients, too, are attended to by Rega medical staff.

Medical advice

Rega also helps travellers abroad with medical problems by giving them medical advice over the phone. Thus Rega comes to the assistance of people at any time and anywhere – not only from the air!
